Two opposite emotions cannot occupy the body at the same time. It is possible to replace anxiety with relaxation. When hypnotized, a person can slow down their mind's pictures and as a result begin to understand what brings on their anxiety. It is then possible to anchor back to relaxation at stressful times. As we do this we begin to create a new behavior that is associated to being more relaxed.
