You get taught valuable skills for reducing stress in your life The trance state is healing in itself The days following trance, you sleep and feel so much better You could resolve all kinds of problems holding you back from achieving your full potential You can see results fairly quickly Hypnosis is often defined as an "altered state of consciousness" (which can sound scary) but it really just means that you are very focused on one specific thought while the rest of your mind (conscious) is quiet and your body totally relaxed. A better definition I saw recently was "controlled daydreaming" which definitely gives a much better impression of the trance state. We all love daydreaming - being in a zone where you are so focused on one thought that the rest of the world around you just seem to disappear. Some people daydream a lot more than others, but we all have the innate ability to daydream. During hypnosis this daydreaming is just controlled to allow healing / growth to take place. A pause and a breath can allow both sides of your brain (Emotional and Intellectual) to work together avoiding overload and a response rather than a reaction to any situation. Mindfulness originates from Buddhism but has more recently become very mainstream. In short, mindfulness is a practice that teaches you to be in the moment. We all know the saying "stop and smell the roses"
What are the benefits of mindful practices?
A panic attack is a form of overload brought on by the negatives in our world. EFT and Hypnosis are helpful in creating calm and dealing with fear and worry. Seeking help and receiving the appropriate treatment and some lifestyle changes you can make to help avoid a panic attack. Scheduling time to relax is key as this helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Try to factor in some relaxation every day - use a technique you learnt in hypnotherapy or take up meditation. Even if you just take half an hour to relax in a warm bath, anything that helps you unwind is great. Try to eat regular meals. This will keep your blood sugar levels stable, which can regulate mood. If you have too much sugar, or go too long without a meal, these levels can fluctuate and may trigger anxiety. Avoid triggering substances. Alcohol, drugs and even caffeine can increase your anxiety levels and lead to a panic attack. Start noting down when you get panic attacks and think about what you've done and what you've eaten/drunk that day. You may be surprised to see a pattern emerging. When you are having a panic attack, the best thing to do is focus on your breathing. Concentrate on breathing deeply and slowly. Think about taking the breath in to your belly, rather than your chest. This will get the diaphragm working properly which should stop you from over-breathing. Remember your relaxation techniques and remember it isn't real. While it may feel like you are going to have a heart attack/pass out, the truth is you aren't in any physical danger. Remember that it will pass and that you can (and will) get through it. Raising Children and having a dog or two around seemed normal in our household. Little did I know then that besides dog hair and love we were stimulating our immune systems and keeping us healthier.
Exposure to dogs (having a parent who was a registered dog owner) during the first year of life was linked to a 13% lower risk of asthma in school age children, and farm animal exposure was linked to a 52% lower risk for school age children and a 31% lower risk among preschool age kids. Sports hypnosis refers to the use of hypnotherapy with athletes in order to enhance sporting performance. The mental state of athletes during training and competition is said to impact performance. The power of hypnosis on focus and performance was also displayed beautifully in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Summer Games, when Olympic diver Greg Louganis hit his head on the board while performing a complicated dive during the 3 meter final. In what is considered one of the greatest feats in sporting history, Louganis, his head gushing blood, had the wound treated while he put earphones on to listen to hypnosis tapes. Amazingly, Greg then went out to score a perfect dive the second time, enough to earn him the gold medal. That dive is still shown on television today. How many times have you noticed that when you are driving, you are surprised when you arrive at your destination without observing the familiar scenery or landmarks along the way? It was almost as if you were driving on automatic pilot, while your conscious mind was focused elsewhere. This highway hypnosis is an example of going into a trance while your eyes are wide open, and is similar to an athlete using self-hypnosis during a game or match. There are three factors that influence our sporting ability; our fitness, our technical skills and our mental skills. Although many sports performers will spend a lot of their time on their fitness and technical skills, the mental side of the game is often neglected. And yet it is amazing how good we can be at using our minds to work against us. Even before we start an activity, we can often find a number of reasons for failure - doubt, bad weather, lack of practice, tiredness, anxiety, stress - and find ourselves living up (or 'down') to our expectations. Essentially, we can find ourselves performing badly because we are not using our minds in a positive way. As a result, we can form limiting beliefs about ourselves which leave us expecting failure rather than success. By changing how we use our minds when we approach a game - by enhancing self-belief, dealing with how we respond to committing errors, setting goals and maintaining a positive attitude - it is possible to make a significant impact on our performance levels.
